Goal: Transfer your Etsy order history to your Shopify store so you can maintain a complete record of past sales and customer data.
Prerequisites:
You have Altera installed on your Shopify store
You have access to your Etsy Shop Manager
Step 1 - Export your orders from Etsy
Go to Shop Manager on Etsy.com. Click on Settings, then Options.
Step 2 - Download the Order Item CSV
Click the Download Data tab. Under the Orders section, select Order Item CSV. Use the dropdowns to set your desired timeframe (leave the month blank to export a full year). Click Download CSV.
Important: Choose Order Item CSV, not Order CSV. The Order Item CSV includes the individual products in each order, which is required for importing into Shopify.
Step 3 - Open Altera
In your Shopify admin, go to Apps and open Altera.
Step 4 - Go to Transform data
In the left sidebar, click Transform data.
Step 5 - Upload your Etsy file
Click Upload file and select the Order Item CSV file you downloaded from Etsy.
Step 6 - Select the Etsy Orders transformation
From the transformation dropdown, select Etsy Orders. This converts your Etsy order data into the format Altera uses for Shopify imports.
Step 7 - Download the converted file
Click Transform and wait for the conversion to complete. Download the converted file to your computer.
Step 8 - Import the orders to Shopify
In Altera, click Upload file on the home page. Select the converted file and follow the prompts to import your orders.
Outcome
Your Etsy orders appear in your Shopify admin under Orders. Each order includes customer information, shipping address, line items, and order totals from your original Etsy sales.
Important Notes
Data delay: As of mid-2025, Etsy has a two-week delay on the newest order data in CSV exports. Recent orders may not appear in your export.
Email notifications: Importing orders may trigger staff email notifications in Shopify. Consider disabling these before importing large batches. See How to disable staff email notifications for new orders.
Test first: We recommend importing 1-2 orders first to verify the data looks correct before importing your full order history.
