Goal: Move your Etsy order history to your Shopify store, with the line items, shipping addresses, shipping, discounts, payments, and fulfillments. Altera converts the Etsy order files into an Excel file that you can check and then import into Shopify.
Prerequisites:
You have Altera installed on your Shopify store.
You can sign in to Etsy Shop Manager on a computer.
Step 1 - Download your orders from Etsy
In Etsy, go to Shop Manager > Settings > Options and click the Download Data tab. In the Orders section, select Order Items, select the year (leave the month blank to get the full year), and click Download CSV. Do this for each year that you want to migrate.
You can also download the Orders CSV for the same years. It is optional and adds the payment method and the buyer's name to the order note. The Order Items file is required, because only it has the items of each order.
Note: Etsy can take up to two weeks to add the newest orders to the CSV files.
Step 2 - Upload the files
In Altera, go to Migrations and click the Etsy tab. Drop all the CSV files on the upload area, or put them in one zip file and drop that. Click Continue. To migrate your listings at the same time, also drop the EtsyListingsDownload.csv file (see How to migrate Etsy products to Shopify).
Altera identifies each file by its columns, so the file names are not important. An item that is in two files is used once.
Step 3 - Create the import file
On the migration page, select Orders under Data to migrate and click Create import file. When the file is ready, download the Excel file from the job page. Open it and check a few orders before you import it.
Step 4 - Import the file into Shopify
Import your products first, so that Altera can match the order line items to your products by SKU. Then, in Altera, upload the Excel file on the home page and start the import.
To try the import first, delete most rows from a copy of the file and import a few orders. Shopify can send staff notifications for each new order; see How to disable staff email notifications for new orders. Customers do not get an email.
Outcome
Your Etsy orders are in your Shopify admin under Orders. Each order is named ETSY- followed by the Etsy order number (for example ETSY-3936266731) and has the tag Etsy.
What is migrated
Line items: the title, SKU, quantity, and price. The variations (for example size and color) become the variant title, and the buyer's personalization goes in the line item properties.
Shipping address: the name and address that Etsy shipped to.
Shipping, discounts, and payment: the shipping price, the discount with its coupon code, and a payment for the order total. Orders that were paid on Etsy are paid in Shopify.
Fulfillment: orders that were shipped on Etsy are fulfilled in Shopify on the date they were shipped. Etsy does not export tracking numbers.
Note: the Etsy order number and the buyer's name.
These items are not migrated:
Customers: Etsy does not export the buyer's email address, so the orders are not linked to customers.
Tax that Etsy collected: Etsy collects sales tax and VAT and pays it to the government itself. That tax was never paid to your shop, so it is not part of the Shopify order total.
Refunds and cancellations: the Etsy files do not show which orders were refunded or canceled.
