Goal: Move your Etsy listings to your Shopify store as products, with their titles, descriptions, prices, variations, SKUs, tags, materials, and images. Altera converts the Etsy listings file into an Excel file that you can check and then import into Shopify.
Prerequisites:
You have Altera installed on your Shopify store.
You can sign in to Etsy Shop Manager on a computer (the Etsy app has no data download).
Step 1 - Download your listings from Etsy
In Etsy, go to Shop Manager > Settings > Options and click the Download Data tab. In the Currently for Sale Listings section, click Download CSV. Etsy saves a file named EtsyListingsDownload.csv.
The column names of this file are in the language of your Etsy account. Altera reads the file in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, and Polish, so you do not need to change the language.
Step 2 - Upload the file
In Altera, go to Migrations and click the Etsy tab. Drop the EtsyListingsDownload.csv file on the upload area and click Continue. To migrate your orders at the same time, also drop the order files (see How to migrate Etsy orders to Shopify).
Altera identifies each file by its columns, so the file names are not important.
Step 3 - Create the import file
On the migration page, select Products under Data to migrate and click Create import file. When the file is ready, download the Excel file from the job page. Open it and check a few products before you import it.
Step 4 - Import the file into Shopify
In Altera, upload the Excel file on the home page and start the import. If you also migrate orders, import the products first, so that Altera can match the order line items to your products by SKU.
Outcome
Your Etsy listings are products in your Shopify admin, with the status Active.
What is migrated
Variations: each combination of the variation values becomes a Shopify variant. Etsy has one price and one quantity per listing, so every variant gets the price and the quantity of the listing. Check the stock of each variant after the import.
SKUs: Etsy lists one SKU for each combination that you offer. When the number of SKUs is not the number of combinations, Altera cannot tell which SKU belongs to which variant, so those variants have no SKU (code ETSY001). A listing with only one SKU gives that SKU to all its variants (code ETSY004).
Images: up to 10 images for each listing. Shopify downloads them from Etsy during the import.
Tags: the Etsy file writes spaces in tags as underscores. Altera changes them back to spaces.
Materials: saved in the
custom.materialsmetafield.Handles: Etsy does not export a URL for a listing, so the handle comes from the title. Two listings with the same title get handles such as
knit-beanieandknit-beanie-2.Prices: Altera does not convert currencies. If your Etsy shop uses a different currency than your Shopify store, the job shows a warning (code ETSY002).
Etsy does not export weights, personalization settings, or the shipping profiles of listings. Set them in Shopify after the import.
