How to Disable Staff Email Notifications for New Orders in Shopify

Prevent email flooding when importing orders by turning off staff notifications for new orders.

Updated yesterday

Goal: Disable email notifications to store owners and staff when new orders are created, preventing inbox flooding during bulk order imports.

Prerequisites:

  • You have admin access to your Shopify store

  • You're logged into Shopify with permission to access Settings

Step 1 - Access Shopify Settings

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings in the bottom left corner of the navigation menu.

Step 2 - Open Notifications Settings

Click Notifications from the settings menu to access your store's notification preferences.

Step 3 - Navigate to Staff Notifications

Click Staff Notifications to view all staff-related email notification settings.

Step 4 - Disable New Order Notifications

In the Recipients section, find the staff members or store owner who are receiving new order notifications.

  • Click the three dots (...) next to each recipient you want to stop receiving notifications

  • Choose either Turn off to temporarily disable notifications, or Remove to permanently remove them from this notification type

Outcome

Staff members and store owners will no longer receive email notifications when new orders are created. This prevents email flooding when you import large batches of orders using Altera or other import tools.

Important Notes

  • This setting only affects new order email notifications to staff - customers will still receive their order confirmation emails

  • You can re-enable notifications at any time by returning to Settings > Notifications > Staff Notifications

  • Consider turning notifications back on after completing your order import to stay informed about genuine new orders
