Who each plan is for
Starter: For small fixes, and for testing your files and settings before a large import.
Developer: Ideal while building or testing on a development or free trial store. When your store moves to a paid Shopify plan, you can switch to Starter or Pro with all your configurations intact.
Pro: For teams that need automation, larger jobs, and faster throughput.
Speed and rate limits
There are no different rate limits between plans. We do not intentionally slow down any plan, including the free Starter plan. Import and export speed is governed by Shopify's own API rate limits, which apply equally regardless of which Altera plan you are on. We optimize our use of the available API capacity so that jobs run as fast as Shopify allows.

Community plan (legacy)
The Starter plan replaced the free Community plan on October 27, 2026. Stores that were on the Community plan before that date keep it, with its limit of 100 items of each data type per import or export. New stores can't select it.

We want Altera to be a service for the community. If your situation doesn’t fit neatly into a plan or you have special requirements, please reach out.
